The 3D-imaging sensor company, Vayyar Imaging, has created a new high-tech device that is soon to become the favorite tool of every home remodeler. The WalabotDIY gives consumers Superman-like x-ray vision, allowing them to literally see through walls.
This new device will take all the guesswork out of home renovation projects, as you will be able to see exactly where studs, wires, and pipes are behind a drywall or concrete barrier. You will even be able to inspect for pests, including termite damage and rodent nests, without tearing through the wall.
The WalabotDIY is a compact sensor that attaches to the back of an Android phone with a magnetic mount. The sensor is able to communicate with an app through a USB on-the-go cable. All you have to do is wave the phone over a concrete or plasterboard barrier no thicker than 4 inches. The device will be able to sense metal or plastic pipes as well as wiring and studs.
“It makes all kinds of home repair and renovation tasks easier – everything from hanging a gallery wall, mounting shelving, locating a pesky leak or drilling into a wall without the fear of hitting a pipe or electrical wire,” said Vayyar CEO and co-founder Raviv Melamed. “There are many use cases for Vayyar’s 3D imaging technology, one of the highest demands we have had is from the home renovation market where 3D imaging makes a wide variety of tasks much easier.”
Melamed also said that the technology could be used for other purposes, including medical scanning and food production.
X-ray technology has been used in a wide variety of fields for many different applications. For instance, manufacturers use industrial CT scanners to view the inside of a product, inspecting for defects, cracks, voids, or holes. X-rays also measure porosity, or the empty spaces in a material.
With the WalabotDIY, you don’t have to be a professional or own industrial-quality equipment to scan for defects.
